I want to go to stony brook dental school after undergrad and do undergrad in 3 years but I haven't decided what I should major in. I'm thinking of something that would help me get my prereqs and maintain a 3.5+ gpa
Hi! You don’t have to pick a certain major to apply to dental school—what’s important is that you finish the prerequisites (like biology, chemistry, organic chemistry, physics, and sometimes anatomy or biochemistry) and keep your grades strong. A lot of students choose Biology or Health Sciences because those majors overlap with the required courses, but you can choose another major if you complete the prerequisites.
If you’re hoping to finish in three years, look for a major that covers most of the required science classes and feels like a good fit for you. You're more likely to maintain your interest and raise your GPA in this method. Admissions committees care most about your grades and whether you’ve taken the necessary courses, not about whether your major was the "easiest."
