how important is taking the SAT for college applications because i dont test well and i know i probably wont do great on the SAT
It depends. Some schools require the SAT like MIT. Others are test optional but still consider it like majority of schools actually. What you score in the SAT determines which colleges you would send it to cause it could help or harm your application. UCs are test blind. They do NOT even consider test scores. So dont feel too stressed. Still take the test tho...do your best and after, you can worry about the admissions effect.
Taking the SAT and its importance for college applications depends on each college. Some schools require them while others are optional. But I would recommend still taking the SAT because you can send it to some colleges, but not others, allowing you to consider if it would increase your chances of acceptance! I completely understand not testing well and why that may be making you doubt taking it, but what helped me is just trying to push that thought aside and doing it anyways! Khan Academy has a great SAT practice test with videos and explanations for the topics if you want to look into study options! But a quick Google search for SAT practice tests/study guides can give you a lot of results and options to choose from! And if you do better with studying on paper there are SAT study books you can probably find at local bookstores, malls, online, etc. Good luck!
Just check what schools don’t require tests. Lots of them are optional and almost all take a holistic approach anyway. If you do need to submit scores, take a lot of practice tests and things so you know what the structure will be like. If you know strategies for tests it’s a lot easier. Good luck!
