If I have taken spanish for four years (7th, 8th, 9th, 10th) and am on spanish 4, does that count as 4 years of a language or do colleges only look at what is in high school?
Colleges will most likely look into those four years of Spanish and take them into consideration. As long as they are on your high school transcript.
Generally the foreign language requirements are credit requirements, not classes. That's why some people who speak another language at home can take a proficiency exam in hs and not have to take the classes. In your case it probably depends if they're counted as hs credits, because if they count only as middle school credits they may not count. You should probably ask your counselor.
colleges usually count only high school years, so they’d see spanish 7–10th grade as 4 yrs if all were in hs. middle school often doesn’t count, but your spanish 4 in hs def counts as a year. basically show what’s official on your transcript.
Im most cases (i have not heard otherwise), middle school credits count for highschool. Just reach out to your counselor.
