Hey guys, so I am currently a senior in high school and planning to apply to college. I have a considerably decent resume and a 3.76 GPA with honors and dual enrollment, but my ACT is only a 24. Although I do have safety schools ready, I really want to try to shoot a little high and apply for some more difficult colleges, but I don't want to risk ruining my chances because of my ACT.
For your reach school(s), I think you should look at the average ACT scores that that school usually has and then make your decision to be test optional. If the scores are around a 27-30, you should probably just do test optional. But either way, you have to make sure you have strong extracurriculars. Everyone is a part of something, but you want to be the leader of something. Make yourself stand out!
I think your best bet may be to apply test optional to your target and reach schools. A 24 may hurt your application more than help for more difficult colleges. If you have time, try retaking the ACT to get a better score. Good luck.
I think you should leave it out for the more difficult colleges. Sometimes, including EVERYTHING in your application can hurt it more than help it. Your best bet is to include things that you're proud to show to colleges, not just everything you've done throughout your high school career. Good luck!!
