Hello, I'm a senior applying to MIT's Early Action, which was due on the 1st. I already submitted my application, but I didn't realize they strongly recommend a humanities teacher's recommendation, so I have 2 science/math teachers as my rec letters. Do you think this will be detrimental to my application? In one of my essays, I already stated my love for the humanities, so hopefully that will help cushion some of that mistake. Thanks!
Hello! Congratulations on submitting your MIT Early Action application! I understand your concern about not including a humanities teacher's recommendation, but try not to worry too much. MIT appreciates students from diverse backgrounds and experiences, and recommendations are just one part of your application. Having two recommendations from science/math teachers can still have a positive impact. Since you've already expressed your passion for the humanities in one of your essays, that should help convey your interest in that area. If you're considering additional steps, you might contact MIT's admissions office to explain your situation and ask if it's possible to submit any additional materials. However, what you've submitted so far should still make a strong impression.
Lowkey, probably, because you have mentioned your love but it's not sounding like you mentioned your ability in the humanities. A humanities teacher makes your application well rounded and shows that while you're applying to a stem school, you're more than a stem student. However your application isn't tanked, it just doesn't really follow the guidelines. Don't stress though, even applying to MIT shows how qualified you are. Good Luck?
