How do I get recommendations?
Answered

I’m a junior and I’ve been thinking about college apps. I get straight As but I don’t talk much in class, so I don’t feel like teachers know me great. Should I try to make a good impression with AP bio teacher, get rec from swim coach, or calc bc, or lang, or can I get one from chem teacher who I know a little bit. Do recs have to be teachers? And what are counselor recommendations? My counselor has maybe met me once and doesn’t know anything except my grades.

:)

To add to the previous answer, I would DEFINITELY recommend giving all your recommenders a "brag sheet"--basically a description of all your accomplishments, your goals for the future, and your extracurricular pursuits. It helps teachers and counselors make your rec more unique and not just "they were a great student" (they could say that for anyone.)

If possible, I would choose teachers who know you best, academically and interpersonally. You want to have some accounts of how you work with others as well as your unique academic abilities.

Your teacher recommendations have to be from teachers you've had. For a coach, you could invite them as a special recommender, if your swim coach knows you well, then invite them. You should do one letter from your Lang teacher and another from a STEM teacher depending on the major, Calc or Bio might be better. Whichever teacher you're sure have a lot to say about you should ask for a rec letter. You have to give them a lot to say though, just talk to your teachers fr, like be a part of class instead of just taking it. But tbh that's not for everyone, so just make sure that they have more than just straight A's to say about you. Also you can give your teachers things you want them to mention, if all else fails. Good Luck!
