I am currently a Junior in high school with a 3.974 weighted GPA. I am taking extra classes on FLVS to boost my GPA further. My dream school is Yale and I am wondering if I have a fighting chance. I am taking Honors and AP classes for my core classes where I maintain A's and I am not sure what else I might be able to do. I also hold industry certifications in CTE classes
Yale, since it's an Ivy, values holistic admission often more than just numbers like your scores and GPA. They want to hear about your PASSIONS, not just the fact that you're a strong student. More than half of the students applying to Yale have extremely high GPAs and records like yours, but that's one of the problems. By being like "every other applicant", you run the risk of fading into the background. Now, if you connect your passions, essays, and extracurriculars to make a cohesive application? That's gold. Show them who YOU are as a person, not as a number. Right now, I recommend you focus on what interests you and act on that. Found a club. Take up a leadership position. Apply to a competitive summer program. But make sure they all tie together. Adding useless activities one on top of another actually weakens your application, and every single aspect needs to be gut-punch worthy. Good luck, and may the odds be ever in your favor.
