How do I tie my application together?

I have a lot of interests which seem to not tie together very well. I am president of Model UN (I do a lot of stuff with MUN), founded a political debate club, and do other world affairs things like Junior World Affairs Council and am thinking of starting a World Cultures Club. I also have a strong interest in biology, am going to start a independent research project, interned for a biology nonprofit, and are applying to summer research and bio programs. I also volunteer on the side for multiple nonprofits that have nothing to do with either of those. In addition, I edit for my schools literary magazine and joined the school newspaper recently. I have no idea to tie any of these together into a cohesive story. My thought was bioethics, but I dont know. Any advice?

Hmm, you're right, this could be a toughie, but never fear! The first thing I noticed is that you have a strong presence within political extracurriculars, and that seems to be something that interests you, as well as biology. Remember, the Common App has 10 activity slots, but you DO NOT HAVE TO USE THEM ALL. Colleges value quality over quantity, and you've already got the right idea in connecting all your activities! I'd say bioethics is a strong theme, and you might also want to try to connect a core value throughout your entire application (i.e., curiosity or initiative). Take some time to sit with yourself and think: what do I value most in my academic career? What might I want to major in? Then, once you have an idea, connect your activities and essays to your passions (if you want), and voila! Colleges, especially competitive ones, care about your level of passion and what you're doing to execute it. Hope this helps!
