How many times to take the ACT or SAT
Answered

I am a HS Junior and took the SAT 2 times already, once in March of Sophomore year and December of Junior year. How many times is it recommended to take the exams MAX so that it doesn't affect my college application negatively. My highest score was a 1250.

This is totally an understandable question! Experts have said that you should take the SAT 2-5 times if you are displeased with your scores, with the sweet spot being 3-4. If you are upset with your last score, I say you should take it again with a cut off of 4!

I would say it's up to you! If you're happy with your score (or if you know you won't study even if you do take it again), don't add the stress. If you want a higher score and are just worried about college applications, take it another time or two! You only have to submit one SAT score as far as I know (or if I'm wrong, colleges like to see improvement), and most colleges will allow you to "superscore" which means they will take the higher score for each section across multiple tests (for example, if you got math 650 english 600 and then math 600 english 650, the colleges would take both 650s). Good luck!!!

Hi there,

Congrats on taking the SAT twice already! A score of 1250 is solid. Generally, 2–3 attempts is considered safe and won’t negatively affect your college applications. Most colleges only look at your highest score, and multiple attempts are very common.

A tip from running service-focused platforms like share.google/GqRibjcUTgkC5rwWs

: tracking progress carefully and analyzing results before your next step makes a huge difference — whether it’s test scores or client workflows. Focused preparation improves outcomes.

Avoid more than 3–4 tries, as extra attempts usually don’t add value and can add stress. Since you’re a junior, you still have time to improve and hit your target score.

Good luck! 🙂
