Hi! I'm a HS junior rn and I'm taking the March SAT since my school is giving it to juniors for free but I don't feel ready at all. I took my first SAT in November my junior year and got a 1310. I'm aiming for a 1450 minimum because I'm applying to more prestigious schools. I have a 3.9/4.0 GPA and decent extracurriculars but I'm scared that my low SAT score will make me look bad to colleges. I'm not aiming for schools that are SAT test optional nor do I want to take the ACT.
I'm trying to study for this upcoming SAT but with all my AP classes I barely have time and on the practice tests I keep getting scores in the 1300s. I'm thinking that if I do badly on this March SAT then I can take it in August of 12th grade. Is that a bad idea? Is it too late? I could take it in June but I wanted all of summer to study since I don't have anything going on in summer. I think I could get a high score in August but I'm worried it will look bad to college admissions that I took it so late. I'm applying to colleges in October.
So is it ok? Please let me know! Thank you so much!
When you take the SAT doesn't matter to colleges, just how and where you did well. Even then, all it does is tell them you're good academically. If you need to take it in August, take it in August. It could even show them that you're willing to do it as many times as it takes before you do well (perseverance). Also, a low (not really but since it's prestigious, it's low) SAT score doesn't automatically knock you out. They want students who make an impact not students who just pass. Make your application show that you're the best candidate and you'll do fine. Try not to put too much pressure on yourself! (Coming from a fellow Junior)
