I’m currently an evc student, I see Mission college has more classes that focus on Hospitality Management which is the major i want to sign up for when i transfer to four years university. I don’t know if I should stay here and taking more business, math courses or switching to Mission to actually learn what i need to know about my future career. And is there any university that having good hospitality management courses beside SJSU I should transfer to?
Before switching colleges, pull up your transfer targets on ASSIST.org and compare what they actually require. For CSU transfer, admission comes down to two things: the Golden Four (oral communication, written communication, critical thinking, and math) plus the major preparation courses each campus lists. The name on your community college matters much less than having those specific boxes checked.
For Hospitality Management, look at SJSU alongside Cal Poly Pomona, which has a dedicated hospitality college, and San Francisco State. Line up their required prep side by side on ASSIST. Business-flavored majors like this usually want foundational courses such as accounting, economics, and statistics. That means the business and math classes you would take at EVC are likely doing more for your transfer application than hospitality electives at Mission would, because major-specific CC classes often transfer as electives rather than satisfying major requirements.
The only strong reason to switch is if a campus you want requires a specific course that EVC does not offer. Otherwise you are trading established counselor relationships and a clean single transcript for a split record and a new set of articulation quirks.
So make the call with ASSIST open, not with the course catalog. List every required course for your top three campuses, mark which ones EVC offers, and see where the gaps are. If EVC covers them, staying put is the stronger move.
