Chicago

The home of the Italian beef, deep-dish pizza, and the Vienna Beef hot dog (hold the ketchup!) is also the city that gave us the skyscraper, open-heart surgery, and reverse-flowing river technology. There's no place else like Chicago, and we're proud to call the Windy City our home.

Study away & study abroad

Illinois Tech offers study away on six continents (all except Antarctica). If you’re interested in seeing the world and exploring your major in another country, Illinois Tech’s study away opportunities will take you there. Study away is a life-changing experience. Cultural differences go deeper than language, food, clothing, and art. They shape the way we view the world. Students who study away often see their own world in a different light—and find themselves re-examining previously held opinions about other countries and ways of life when they return home. Study away experience can make you stand out in a competitive job market. Potential employers may see you as highly motivated, inquisitive, and as a global citizen willing to try new things. Study away is available to students of every major.

Queensland University of Technology (QUT) is a highly successful Australian university with an applied emphasis in courses and research. ITALY: Università Iuav di Venezia (IUAV)

The IUAV is a small university with an enrollment of approximately 6200 students. The number of students is limited to guarantee the quality of education offered. What makes the Iuav special is the emphasis it places on project-based learning. It is the only university in Italy entirely devoted to teaching the planning and design of everything related to the spaces and environments in which we live: buildings, cities, and landscapes; objects of daily use and graphics; cultural, theatrical and multimedia events. In recent years the Iuav has implemented a unique experiment in “project-based learning” that is the first of its kind in Italy. Theory and technique are integrated with hands-on training that spans the entire planning and design process, from the conception of an idea all the way through to its realization. Studying at Iuav means living in an environment that is open to what is happening throughout the world. It means coming face-to-face with authoritative voices in the fields of architecture, regional planning, arts, and design. Le Corbusier, Louis Kahn, Frank Lloyd Wright, Carlo Scarpa, Carlo Aymonino, Manfredo Tafuri, Vittorio Gregotti, Gino Valle, Aldo Rossi, Giovanni Astengo, Giancarlo De Carlo, Tadao Ando, and Richard Serra have all been part of our school’s history.

Location: Venice, Italy
Program length: Academic Year, Fall, & Spring
