About this livestream

Picture this: you’ve just finished writing your personal statement. You let out a sigh of relief and open up the Common App to submit. To your horror, there are five other prompts in there! Don’t be that person - come to Hale’s stream this Wednesday!

Hale will be covering what supplemental essays are, what archetypes to look out for, and, of course, how to write them. Don’t miss this special stream and bring all of your questions about essay writing.

Work Experience: I am a senior at Yale and excited to begin my fifth admissions cycle working with CollegeVine. After four years of working directly with students, I can't wait to engage with the people and the process in new and innovative ways online.

Audience questions

These are questions from the audience that we had time to answer during the live session. If you have any other questions, you can request an answer from Hale and other CollegeVine experts in an upcoming livestream or on the Q&A Forum anytime.
6:09@Jordan8171:If the school say it’s optional to submit suplemental essays, is it better to submit them anyway?
18:36@mat:do u have a presenation? we are not seeing ur screen
29:20@Jordan8171:Should supplemental essays have a hook or be written like a creative narrative similar to the common app essay?
30:15@rina:I started to find my passion towards the end of HS so my extracurriculars from freshman/sophomore year are rather irrelevant to my current interests. Does it hurt to write about an activity that I have not been involved in for a long time?
31:44@rina:Should the supplemental essays show a completely new side of you or "supplement" --as in, add on to the narrative of--the common app essay?
