I received a connection request for a university that I think is really out of reach for me. Do the counselors even check the people they ask to connect with or is this just a way of them getting people to apply?

Hey! Congrats on getting a connection request! Happy to share some insight into how you receive those. There are hundreds of colleges on CollegeVine that use the platform to meet students that could be potentially good fits for their college. Colleges will reach out to you directly via an admissions officer or from the overall college if they're interested in your profile.

Colleges are selective in who they choose to connect with, based on their class goals (e.g. looking for more students in a certain region, looking for students with a certain GPA, etc.). If you received a request from this college, they're definitely interested in you. Of course, a connection request isn't a signal of acceptance, but it absolutely means they think you're a potential candidate and want you to apply. Once you accept the request, I recommend you reach out to their admissions officer (you can do this right on CollegeVine) and introduce yourself to start a relationship.

Hope that helps!
