Admissions Advice

Should I take AP Statistics, AP Physics 1, or French 3 Honors?

I'm currently a sophomore and I'm trying to figure out what classes I want to take my junior year. I plan on majoring in applied mathematics in college and I'm interested in going to colleges that have a 20-50% acceptance rate. My high school only requires 2 years of a foreign language and I'm not interested in taking another year of French. I don't think I want to take AP Statistics next year also since I can just take it senior year but I'm also worried that AP Physics 1 will be too difficult for me.

As of right now, I'm planning on taking:

AP Language and Composition

AP United States History

AP Pre-Calculus

Biology accelerated (accelerated is directly below honors)

Personal Finance (a requirement for graduation and a semester class)

Psychology (a semester class)

Concert Band (I've been in band for 5 years now and I don't plan on quitting)

either French 3 Honors, AP Physics 1, or AP Statistics

While APs are good, if you want to go to top colleges/universities like the ivy league, 3 foreign language credits are recommended, so you should also think about that. I know you said your preferred major is math which means AP Stat and AP Physic is really really useful for it. I think taking just one more year of foreign language for the credit would be a better choice if you are aiming for top schools.

But keep thinking about it and weigh all of the options.

Good luck!

Sincerely,

from Kevin

I would say that you should do AP Physics this year and take AP stats next year
