About

Hello! My name is Joseph and I am excited to have the opportunity to work with you as an admission advisor. As an advisor, I believe in a mentorship model in which my I not only advise my students step by step through the admission process, but also serve as a source of advice, guidance, and at time counseling through the stresses of high school and the college process. My academic background is in anthropology, having both my BA from Gettysburg College and my MA from Columbia University in the subject. I am currently pursuing my PhD in anthropology at the University of California - Davis with my research focusing on Urban studies and youth perception in Sarajevo. My admission experience includes working as a senior intern in the Gettysburg College Admissions Office, being a former Admissions Officer at Truman State University, and having multiple years of professional admission advising experience. Fun fact about me, I have been to 63 different countries.

My process

As an advisor and former admission officer, I take a holistic approach to the application process, encouraging students to create the best overall application by putting specific focus on each piece of the application, but also helping the student establish an overall application theme/profile to carry throughout and create cohesion. I work extensively to discover and highlight a student's voice in the application, emphasizing authenticity as a key to a successful application.

“Even though I submitted my essay in a very short amount of time, he really took his time reading and gave me extremely helpful feedback. Literally going to cry while fixing my essay right now. Thank you so much!! "

“I have received two essay reviews from Joseph for both my personal statement and a writing supplement. He has given me very constructive feedback that has helped me revise my essays in a way that flows better and answers the prompts more clearly, while also not discouraging me in any way. Highly recommend him for essay reviews!"

1. Prepare for your first session
Plan out the questions and topics you'd like to discuss. If you'd like to work together in the long term, discuss expectations for each other.
