At CollegeVine, we’ll be walking you through the whole process with tons of applications-related streams and other helpful admissions-related content.

Audience questions

These are questions from the audience that we had time to answer during the live session. If you have any other questions, you can request an answer from Hale and other CollegeVine experts in an upcoming livestream or on the Q&A Forum anytime.
40:08@HassanH2A:you earlier said that admission officers tend to lean progressive. will it hurt me if I mention something I don't like about progressiveness or liberalism?
42:05@ashley_e:Are there any topics would you 100% not recommend writing an essay about?
43:42@harvard:Does there have to be a single life altering event to show growth and make good essay? If not necessary can you talk about an alternative structure to make a good essay?
44:55@HassanH2A:I always have this feeling that I should better avoid talking about stuff that isn't familiar to American culture to let the admission officers really understand what I'm talking about. there are really cool stuff in my culture but I'm not sure how to go about talking about them. should I explain everything along the way?
46:37@ashley_e:Does the moment we talk about HAVE to show growth? What if that specific moment left us confused rather than have learned something
47:47@HassanH2A:I have a theory. I think that essays about absurd or weirdly niche stuff are the ones that stands out the most. what do you think?
65:58@ashley_e:You mentioned a web diagram. What are some ways you organized your thoughts while writing your essay?
67:31@HassanH2A:are there any courses/books you recommend that will help us in writing an essay?
68:10@ashley_e:This might be a bit stupid but how do you feel about including curse words in your writing?
71:23@HassanH2A:not essay related. but do you think google career certificates look good on the app? they're equivalent to a 4-year college degree
