Hello, I am a senior who will be applying to colleges this fall.
This year, the University of Texas at Austin has begun using the CommonApp to submit applications. They still require the topic A essay, but my CommonApp personal statement will also be sent, which serves a similar purpose- getting to know the student. Do you think I should:
- write about two different topics for both essays, because if I write about a similar story/trait in both of them, it may seem repetitive. OR
- should I not even apply via the CommonApp and use ApplyTexas instead? By doing so, I can submit a tweaked version of my CommonApp personal statement as my topic A essay instead of writing a different essay.
Kindly advise which will be a better decision to make.
You can decently apply through Common app without worrying anything! In fact, I believe UT said that common app statement will NOT be part of the holistic review. I think you can just copy your common app essay for your topic A essay and be totally cool.

So we can use our Personal Statement for both? I struggled applying vis commonapp, as writing essentially another personal statement is repetitive and annoying,
