Do Public Universities like UNC consider legacy?

My father went to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I was wondering whether or not that counts as legacy, and will give me better chances at admission. I spent a fair bit of my young life in the town of Chapel Hill as my dad finished his MBA, and then moved to Maryland. Also, my uncle went to George Washington University, would that help my admission chances to GWU or not?

Hey there @LordShroo!

Yes, you would be considered a legacy student at UNC, and yes, it would increase your chances. Around 17% of UNC students are legacies. Having an uncle that went to a certain school wouldn't typically make you a legacy, and I've found mixed results about whether or not GWU even considers legacy, so no, it probably wouldn't help you out much.
